RHINOCORT AQUA is a nasal steroid that is used to treat nasal allergy symptoms
of seasonal and year-round (perennial) allergic rhinitis. The active ingredient
in RHINOCORT AQUA is called budesonide (pronounced bew-des-ah-nide).
When you hear the word "steroid," you may think of the steroids that some
athletes and bodybuilders use to build muscles. These steroids, known as
"anabolic steroids," work differently than budesonide.
When taken as prescribed, nasal steroids can be a safe and effective treatment
option for nasal allergies. Because nasal steroids are sprayed in the
nose rather than swallowed, they are delivered directly to the tissues where
they work to reduce inflammation. Since they are topical, they can work
directly on the affected tissue where they are sprayed.
